Eulogy for Rev Arthur Howard CROSS

I want to mention two people in Dad's life (among many others) who I think really shaped him.

Firstly, his father, Arthur James. He was a passionate, generous minded man who pioneered missionary work in what was Northern Rhodesia, where Dad grew up. Although Dad never talked a huge amount about him, when he did he always mentioned the hospitality that he and our Granny offered to passing missionaries - methodists, baptists, presbyterian and so on. > > > MORE

Jogging the Memories of the Past

"Reminiscing promotes emotional well being
and reduces isolation, loneliness and depression"

Reminiscence is something we all do and the older we get the more likely we are to fall back on our memories. The above photo was taken in December 1974. Can you spot your friends? > > > MORE

Tribute to Honourable Dr Anton Balasingam.

Voice of the Nation
DR Anton Balasingham

Dr Balasingam gave voice to the legitimate aspirations of the Tamil nation and defined the political and theoretical framework for it. He argued that the Tamil nation, which has a distinct language, culture, and is united in its determination to live with dignity and equality and inhabits a traditional homeland has the right to self-determination. He was the international face of the Tamil political campaign to win their right to self determination. He lived and breathed the Tamils struggle for self determination.

Power of Non-Violence - An episode in reverse Psychology

I was 16 years old and living with my parents at the institute my grandfather had founded 18miles outside of Durban, South Africa, in the middle of the sugar plantations. We were deep in the country and had no neighbors, so my two sisters and I would always look forward to going to town to visit friends or go to the movies.... > > > MORE

Eulogy for Mrs.Rose Mahesan (Rose Akka Teacher)

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It's overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt. > > > MORE

Tsunami Feedback

I worked with the team set up in Australia called Australian Medical aid. This organisation has no overhead and all the workers are volunteers. Every cent is spent in the camps. Their primary concern is to set up medical relief for any refugees in Sri Lanka. Our work is to visit the camp sites dotted around Ampara coastal district and treat those who needed medical attention. People were suffering from coughs colds malaria diarrhoeal disease minor injuries and counselling those individual who were badly affected. Some just wanted someone to listen to their story. > > > MORE
